The microKORG is a staple in any home musician's arsenal of instruments, and for a good reason. I'd recommend the XL (or any soft synth) if you're going for sound quality and features but the Microkorg is much easier to program and sure to be a classic in spite of its quirks. The XL sounded crisper and punchier with identical settings. It can produce some fat analog tones! Doing some A/B testing with the XL was interesting. There are 64 and this really makes the synth worthwhile and versatile. However the best part of this synth is the digital waveforms selectable for OSC 1. The sound also develops latency between the timbres when you go into layer mode and start pushing the limits of what this synth can do.

The polyphony is only 4 voices and the step arpeggiator can't keep a consistent pulse (doesn't play steady 16th notes) with extreme program settings. But beginners will like them and making your own sounds with this synth is easy anyway. The presets are a little dated, sort of in an early 2000s "electro" way. It is very solidly built and easy to program, with everything laid out on the front panel. I bought it to round out my Microsampler and Microkorg XL.

I've owned this little synth for two weeks. and you have performance that is unheard of from a synthesizer in this price range!
#Microkorg software mod
Add a Virtual Patch matrix that lets you create advanced modulation settings routing the Mod Wheel to control filter cutoff or pulse width, using an LFO to control panning or amp level, etc. Two classic ADSR envelope generators and two MIDI-syncable LFOs provide the power to shape your sounds.
#Microkorg software plus
You can also apply Ring and Sync modulation from Oscillator 2 to create the kind of complex timbres that are the true sign of an advanced synthesizer.įour filter modes are available, offering -12 dB (2-pole) low pass, high pass and band pass configurations plus an extra steep -24 dB (4-pole) low pass setting. Sounds like bells, electric pianos, guitars, basses and more that would be difficult reproduce on an analog synthesizer. In addition, 64 exclusive DWGS waveforms from Korgs classic DW-8000 enable the microKORG to reproduce a broad collection of imitative sounds. Together they provide a cool selection that can be modulated to produce an extensive range of timbres.

These include traditional analog waves like saw, pulse, sine and noise, plus more unique choices like Vox wave and cross wave. Oscillator 1 features a total of 71 waveforms. The microKORG boasts the same dual-oscillator DSP synthesis engine found in Korgs critically acclaimed MS2000 and offers a wider selection of waveforms than any other modeled synth. The microKORG delivers the quality sounds and features you expect from Korg at a price that will astound you. With 37 keys and 128 user-rewritable programs, the microKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder is perfect for the performer, producer, computer musician or beginner looking for an affordable synthesizer.
